You’re already a trusted bitcoin guide, and now you can offer even better support. Connections makes it easy to help your family and friends withdraw bitcoin from exchanges, transition from ETFs, or upgrade from singlesig wallets.
Help safeguard their bitcoin savings
By including your key in their wallet, you can help protect your loved ones from phishing attacks, social engineering, and common security mistakes. You can even offer emotional support as they learn to weather bitcoin’s volatility.
Never worry about bitcoin inheritance again
Whether you’re inheriting a loved one’s bitcoin or need to ensure your heirs are ready to recover yours, Unchained trust or personal vaults combined with Connections help ensure your bitcoin gets to its intended recipient.
Manage fewer, higher-security keys
Holding keys for other people can be a burden—from fear of physical security breaches to keeping drawers full of seed phrases. Connections makes it easy to manage one key which can be shared across many vaults.
Secure one key to a loved one's vault, helping them onboard to multisig, protect them from attackers, serve as a backup, and manage their inheritance plan.
If you already use multisig, Connections can also provide more options for your bitcoin security. A connection can help you:
Manage fewer, higher security keys
More conveniently sign transactions
Reduce the chance of costly mistakes when retrieving or restoring key backups.
Build trusted custody relationships for your business
Registered Investment Advisors
Offloading custody risk to a third party can be disastrous for your client relationships. So can bearing the risk yourself. Provide a robust custody solution while eliminating both you and your clients as a single point of failure.
Family Offices
Ensure your clients’ wealth is always ready for a generational transfer. With Connections and trust vaults, you can build a shared bitcoin vault where the trust grantor holds a key and you hold a key as executor.
Miners
Miners can share keys with trusted business partners and be their key agent. Soon, miners will be able to view external vaults and amass addresses to effortlessly create batch spends for LP, partner, and client distributions.
Who can use Connections?
Anyone that has an Unchained account can use Connections.
How much does Connections cost?
Connections is included as part of your annual Unchained fee. Anyone with an Unchained vault can create and share connections to their keys with other Unchained users. If you want to accept a connection, you need to sign up for an Unchained account before you can do so.
How do I get started with Connections?
Connections can be found in your Unchained account as one of the menu items on the left side of the page. You can either copy your connection code and share it with another Unchained account holder, or you can receive a code from someone else and enter it on that page. Once entered, a connection request is sent which needs to be accepted by the other user.
What is the cost for bringing on a connection?
Collaborating with family members via Unchained Connections requires them each having their own Unchained account. Personal vaults start at $250 per year—see our pricing here.
How do I remove a Connection?
Connections can be removed by opening the Connections page and clicking the remove icon next the connection name. Any vaults that have already been created with a shared key will remain—coordinate with your connection partner to ensure a seamless transition.
What is the best support line for Connections related inquiries?
For questions pertaining to the Connections feature, clients can navigate to our Knowledge Base section on the topic, or contact our support team either by phone at +1 (844) 486-2424 or by email at [email protected].
What is a key agent?
A key agent secures and operates one of multiple keys in a multisig wallet, and existing Unchained clients are better positioned than anyone else in the world to be at the forefront of serving in this role for their peers.
Bitcoin donor-advised funds are powered by Connections
The only donor-advised fund where bitcoin is secured in transparent collaborative custody. Donors can verify security alongside Unchained and your DAF sponsor, confirming the bitcoin on the blockchain.
We believe that the future of bitcoin custody is a network of relationships where individuals secure bitcoin for one another. Anyone who manages keys has the opportunity to become a key agent for their network.
